CHECK
HERE WEEKLY FOR UPDATED
LOS CABOS FISH REPORTS!
July 15, 2006
Let us start by congratulating TOM AND CAROLYN ROSSKNECHT
who boarded our first BLUE MARLIN of this summer
season aboard RUM RUNNIN with Cesar and Fausto on
the 8th
of July. The lovely couple thought they would spend
a few hours in the morning trying their had at some
fishing.....a couple of hours in, slightly offshore,
they got their prize of a Blue estimated at 250lbs
! Congratulations to them and thanks for the great
photos that you can soon see on the photo gallery.
RUM RUNNIN also spent their time over the last few
weeks catching and releasing 12 STRIPED MARLIN,
4 WAHOO, 8 DORADO a SAILFISH and some small football
YELLOWFIN TUNA......An excellent couple of weeks
for these guys and their anglers with a few days
of rest in between...........REEL RUM with RAMON
AND OMAR entertained many anglers these past few
weeks with the catch and release of 17 STRIPED MARLIN,
10 DORADO, 1 SAILFISH AND 12 FOOTBALL TUNA....RAMON
AND OMAR made some new friends in BRITAIN SMYTHE
AND HIS FATHER on their father/son three day fishing
trip with REEL RUM.........congratulations on your
grand
catches gentlemen and we will see you again next
year ! .........REDRUM TOO sent anglers out a few
times over the last few weeks flying their flags
with 4 RELEASED STRIPED MARLIN, ONE MARLIN KEPT,
6 DORADO, 3 LITTLE FOOTBALL TUNA AND 1 WAHOO.......REDRUM
TOO also entertained snorkelers for a full day of
fun, sun, snorkling, swimming and a few cold beverages........The
waters have remained very warm around the Sea of
Cortez side, averaging in the low to mid eighties
with a few whacky days of lower temps and the pacific
has been slightly cooler in the mid 70's the last
few days due to winds from stoms to the very far
south of us........don't worry, they are headed
way west ! Most fish were being caught at the 95,
Cerro Colorado and Cabeza de Ballena as well as
the Old Lighthouse for those who braved some choppy
waters on the Pacific side..........for those of
you headed down to our little slice of paradise,
dont' forget your hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and
a few more changes of t-shirts - it's the hot and
humid season and you will be glad you have a few
extra changes of clothing ! Yesterday and today,
in the wee hours of the morning, we got our first
10 minutes of rain for the season ....this is not
expected to last and visitors can expect few clouds
in a beautiful blue sky..............
Jun 26, 2006
No matter what you call it......DORADO, MAHI - MAHI
OR DOLPHIN FISH..........they are here and they
are huge...........Catches have been in the 70 lb
range with one report of a 78
lb monster on Sunday. continue to be plentiful as
well. One large private boat brought in a BLACK
MARLIN over 600 lbs about 65 miles out but they
will be headed out way soon.........average water
temperature over the last few days has warmed to
80 degrees all around the point and into the Pacific.
Calm seas, warm water and great fishing ..........it
is the picture of Cabo that you imagine it to be........Another
note to all who will be coming over the days of
the Federal Election here in Mexico - the 2nd of
July.........BE AWARE that access to purchasing
alcohol is restricted by law though you may find
some vendors who may be willing to sell it to you,
be prepared and buy it early to leave in your hotel
room..........
Jun 20, 2006
This past week brought a banner catch of DORADO
for anglers enjoying the first of the Cabo summer
heat.....DENNIS WENTWORTH
and his son spent three
days deep sea fishing with REEL RUM and one day
panga fishing with great results and memories......They
boarded and released STRIPED MARLIN, MULTIPLE DORADO
AND A 30 LB GROUPER on their fishing days........TERRY
WHITE and his friends enjoyed two days fishing with
FAUSTO AND CESAR on RUM RUNNIN bringing in STRIPED
MARLIN, DOARDO AND SOME FOOTBALL TUNA.........REDRUM
TOO also caught and released TWO STRIPED MARLIN
for the JAMES PARTY .............. the last few
days has brought in strong winds from the Pacific,
cooling the inshore waters a bit but the Pangas
are reporting more ROOSTER activity in the last
few days...........bigger game fish have been tougher
with the sudden cooling of the water but some lucky
anglers managed a few Dorado in spite of the cooler
waters...........cooler waters are expected to last
a couple of more days and then return to their usual
summer temperatures...............
Jun 12, 2006
The waters of Cabo have finally
welcomed the beginning of summer.........waters
have calmed significantly and warmed up to bring
us good WAHOO catches, great DORADO catches and
STRIPED MARLIN in the multiples...........REEL RUM
caught and released 9 STRIPED MARLIN in their four
fishing days last week along with 12 DORADO......FAUSTO
AND CESAR ON RUM RUNNIN caught and released 12 STRIPED
MARLIN for their anglers as well as 10 DORADO AND
2 WAHOO...........inshore fishing has slowed but
there have been some nice grouper to be had in the
20 lb range........excellent fish tacos............
BLUE MARLIN continue to be reported as being caught
and released but not in large numbers as of yet.............if
you are headed down to Cabo soon, bring your sunscreen,
hat and lots of tee - shirts to change into.........the
hot season is here............humidity is staying
a bit at bay but you will certainly feel it .............Also,
a note to anyone that will be here 1 AND 2 JULY...........be
aware that these are election days and there will
be NO ALCOHOL SOLD on these days.........you will
likely be able to purchase in your hotel but elsewhere
you will not...................."they"
( who is they anyway ) say that if you are a "gringo"
you will be able to buy alcohol but the local law
dictates that you cannot so just be prepared and
buy before those two days.................
May 29, 2006
The Marlin this past week remain the outstanding
catch.......actually almost exclusively Marlin were
caught this week. REEL RUM, RUM RUNNIN AND REDRUM
TOO caught a total of 13 STRIPED MARLIN for their
anglers with only two not released ..... CONGRATULATIONS
on a 200 LB STRIPER brought in by RICKY
BROWN and his friends aboard RUM RUNNIN........STU
COPELAND AND THE " SAN DIEGO BOYS " were
back for thier annual event and also enjoyed a great
day of Marlin fishing aboard REEL RUM, RUM RUNNIN
and our partner boats. ......... Smaller species
were few and far between this past week and when
they were caught, it was usually one or two a boat............Rough
waters presented for a couple of windy days and
bait became scarce due to the rough seas ..........Water
temperture remains in the 70's with the Pacific
being cooled slightly by the strong West winds......The
Sea of Cortez is averaging tempertures in the mid
70's throughout the week..........most fish were
caught on live bait and dead bait........Fishing
for anglers on Thursday presented a challenge of
patience when they spotted and tossed bait to between
ten and fifteen marlin in the day but they were
not very hungry and hook ups were slim...........makes
us wonder if it is more frustrating to see them
and have them not bite than it is to not see anything
at all...........the wind off the pacific has finally
died down and the warm water is expected to creep
back over to the Pacific in the coming days...........
May 23, 2006
Fishing this past week consisted mostly
of STRIPED MARLIN RELEASES AND DORADO .....the little
TUNA are still here but again, not in large sizes
or numbers. The water remains very warm on the Sea
side between 71 and 76 and on the Pacific at 60
- 65.......waters have been calm most days with
the majority of the catch on the Sea of Cortez........REEL
RUM had a week of 4 RELEASED MARLIN, 5 DORADO, 7
TUNA in the 30 lb range and some skippies..........RUM
RUNNIN fished only a few days this week but managed
2 MARLIN RELEASES, 10 TUNA AND THREE DORADO......CONGRATULATIONS
TO JOSH MAIDA AND HIS PARTY WHO HAD THEIR FIRST
CATCH AND RELEASE MARLIN, SOME DORADO AND TUNA aboard
RUM RUNNIN...........REDRUM TOO also caught and
released a first MARLIN for the KRAUSE party along
with some great DORADO for dinner.........The warm
waters around the point have started to creep into
the Pacific side and the Wahoo have been making
a respectable showing in the last couple of days...........with
warming waters and warming weather, next week's
report is sure to be full of Wahoo reports .........stay
tuned............
May 16, 2006
This week the TUNA slowed a bit but the
DORADO have made a spectacular showing....the MARLIN
remain strong as well. REEL RUM this week caught
and released a total of 6 STRIPED MARLIN.....RAY
BERTONI and his son were aboard REEL RUM when they
caught and released their FIRST MARLIN.....Dorado
was the word of the day for LARRY ROSS and friend
aboard REEL RUM on the 12th....without a stretch
of the truth OMAR hit a school and LARRY caught
and released 16 DORADO, KEPT 4 FOR DINNER AND ADDED
4 FOOTBALL SIZE TUNA to his banner day with OMAR
AND RAMON........the TOTH party also caught and
released TWO MARLIN with REEL RUM this week.....MIKE,
TISHA, HANK AND PATTY caught and released their
FIRST MARLIN as well with FAUSTO AND CESAR on RUM
RUNNIN on the 9th.....photos in the gallery.......have
a look........RUM RUNNIN caught a real prized DORADO
this week with the SPRINT/MOTOROLA GROUP bringing
in a 65lb BULL.........RUM RUNNIN also brought in
10 other DORADO this week with their customers and
the ARROW ELECTRONICS group brought in a total of
4 MARLIN and a handfull of TUNAS on their fishing
day.......FAUSTO AND CESAR had a great day inshore
fishing with LONNIE NOLAND, RAY ORLOWSKI AND CURTIS
FRISKIE on RUM RUNNIN bringing in countless SIERRA
AND PACIFIC BONITA......REDRUM TOO this week caught
and released a total of 4 STRIPED MARLIN this week
as well as a number of TUNA AND DORADO........Most
STRIPERS were caught on live bait with some trolled
dead bait working as well to entice the hungry marlin.........Fish
were mostly caught within 5 - 15 miles straight
south of the point with the DORADO and football
TUNA hanging together slightly west of the point.....MANY

IT IS NOT FISH THEY ARE AFTER ---- HENRY
May
9, 2006:
Well the Tuna have finally arrived...........little
ones but nice nonetheless. They have been long awaited
and this week's anglers grabbed between four and
ten a boat with the other best catches continuing
to be Stripers in the 150- - 160 range. Most catches
were on live bait and anywhere from five to 25
miles
out. Wind was strong some days this week with a
few fishermen chumming for their catch..... Bill
Suer and his lovely lady fished two days aboard
RUM RUNNIN where they caught and released three
marlin and brought in nice YELLOWFIN TUNAS,.....they
then tested their strength aboard REEL RUM the following
day with THREE MARLIN and a couple YELLOWFIN as
well........some great photos to come along soon.......
MATT DEVOSS and his crew also fished RUM RUNNIN
for two days and a partner boat where they brought
in MARLIN after MARLIN with some tunas on the side.......
A number of people with the STATE FARM group also
caught and released over 15 Marlin this week, Tunas
on the side and a few DORADO for good measure.......Special
note to the THOMPSON family who fished REEL RUM
and managed to catch and release two Marlin with
their daughter gettting her first MARLIN as well
as fighting two more.......... MARK NOVEMBRE of
Ledgewood, NJ and his boat also
caught and released their MARLIN abord REEL RUM
as well as bringing in 4 nice YELLOWFIN for dinner...........
This week, REDRUM was proud to have the winners
of the RETT SYNDROM CHARITY AUCTION aboard RUM RUNNIN
AND REDRUM TOO. These winners enjoyed their MARLIN
releases as part of a package donated by REDRUM

Apr
28, 2006 The past few
weeks has continued to prove that CABO is the Marlin
capital of the WORLD.....consistant catches of one,
two three marlin a day gave anglers their dreams
come true for their time aboard REEL RUM, RUM RUNNIN,
REDRUM TOO and our other partner boats. Omar and
Ramon released 16 Stripers and managed a few Dorado
in between. CONGRATULATIONS to David and Annie Ickes
who celebrated part of their Honeymoon aboard REEL

9 foot Striped Marlin and a great Dorado.....have
a look at the photo gallery to see their wonderful
fish and smiles......Our good friend RED GOODWIN
and his crew caught and released a Marlin, a couple
Tunas and a great 50lb Wahoo.....Most stripers were
caught straight off the arch anywhere from five
to 25 miles from shore...Dorados were also available
in smaller numbers but when they were caught, they
were anywhere between 40 and 60 lbs.........some
lucky panga fishermen hit on some great roosters,
yellowtail and sierras.......... Makos were still
around but in fewer numbers than the beginning of
the month.......... "IF PEOPLE REALLY CONCENTRATED
ON THE IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE......THERE WOULD
BE A SHORTAGE OF FISHING POLES........."----DOUG

Dorado and some inshore catches of Sierra and Yellowtail....Our
friend TED GRIMES spent a day fishing on a panga
bringing in multiples of sierra and yellowtail as

days you eat chicken, other days you get the feathers"........now
there's a guy that understands fishing is fishing,
not catching......the Dorado bite over the last
couple of days has picked up and some Tuna are finally
starting to move in as well........I am sure next

Father-Son
Double Hookup!

Father and son team Phil and Chris Apostolakos
fished aboard Rum Runnin and Reel Rum the
secondweek of February and had a once in a
lifetime fishing experience. This was their
first time fishing in Cabo and Phil summed
it up perfectly when he said, "We couldn't
have picked a better outfitter, the RedRum
experience was second to none."
Phil is from San Marcos, California, while
his father Chris came all the way from Cape
Cod, Massachusetts. The New Englander was
in for a big surprise when he hooked into
his first Marlin aboard Rum Runnin, "A
littledifferent than the 10lb. Striped Bass
I am used to catching on the Cape." His
son Phil also brought in a nice size Striped
Marlin, his first as well.
Day two the duo was aboard Reel Rum. Feeling
refreshed from a nice dinner and few cervazas
at the Trailer Park
restaurant the guys were ready for more big
game fishing. Well that is exactly what they
got, three more Marlin to be exact. While
anglers are accustomed to double hookups with
Tuna, Dorado and even Sailfish a double marlin
hookup is pretty
hard to come by. Well these first timers were
in for a treat. One off the back of the boat
and one off the side, with no way to chase
either fish the guys were in for a nice fight.
Just under an hour later both fish were landed,
released, and estimated in the 150-160lb class.
Congratulations on a great fishing trip fellas!
Remember to always release your Marlin.
